Roofing and Gutters in Bear, Delaware
Roof replacement, leak repairs, and new gutters for homes in Bear and across New Castle County.
A roof that holds up to Delaware weather
A roof around here takes weather from every direction. Summer storms push rain sideways. Nor'easters pull at shingle edges for hours. Winter nights freeze whatever water got in, and the next sunny day thaws it out again.
A lot of roofs in this area are 20 years old or more and were put on with whatever shingle was cheapest at the time. Some have two layers. Some have soft spots in the decking nobody knew about until the old shingles came off.
We tear it off, fix what is underneath, and put it back right.
What we do
Roof replacement
We strip the old shingles down to the wood, replace any rotted decking, and install new underlayment, drip edge, flashing and architectural shingles. Ice and water barrier goes in the valleys and along the eaves.
Roof repair
Missing shingles, leaks around chimneys and vent pipes, cracked pipe boots and loose flashing. If a repair makes sense, we will tell you. If the roof is done, we will tell you that too.
Gutters and downspouts
Aluminum gutters cut on site to the exact length of each run and sized for the roof they drain. Downspouts go where the water can get away from your foundation.
Gutter guards
If you have big trees, you know the routine of cleaning gutters every fall and again in spring. Guards keep most of the leaves out so you are up on the ladder a lot less.
Soffit, fascia and ventilation
Rotted fascia boards get replaced and wrapped in aluminum. Good attic ventilation keeps the attic from cooking in July and cuts down on moisture in the winter.
Chimney flashing
Most chimney leaks are flashing, not the chimney. We replace old step and counter flashing so water stays on the roof and out of your ceiling.
Delaware weather is hard on roofs
Humid summers
Heat and humidity bake shingles from above and the attic from below. On shady roofs you get black streaks and moss, which hold moisture against the shingles.
Nor'easters and summer storms
Hours of steady wind lift shingle edges and break the seal. Once a tab is loose, the next storm takes it off.
Freeze and thaw
Water that gets under a shingle or sits in a gutter freezes and expands. Do that enough times in one winter and you get lifted shingles, sagging gutters and wet decking.

How a roof replacement goes
Look and price it
We check the roof, the attic and the gutters, take photos, and give you a written price.
Pick the shingle
We bring samples. If you have an HOA, we give you the product details they ask for.
Tear off and repair
We protect the yard, strip the old roof, and show you any bad decking before we replace it.
Install
Underlayment, flashing, vents and shingles go on. Most houses take one to two days.
Clean up
We run a magnet over the yard and driveway for nails, haul everything away, and walk the job with you.
What we install
Architectural asphalt shingles are what most homes around here get. They hold up well, come in a lot of colors, and cost far less than metal or slate.
We install GAF shingles and buy our materials through ABC Supply. If you have a color or line in mind, bring it up at the estimate and we will price it.
We stand behind it
We stand behind our work. If something we installed is not right, call us and we will come back and make it right.

Roofing questions
How much does a new roof cost?
It depends on the size of the roof, how steep it is, how many layers come off, and how much decking needs replacing. We give you a written price after we look at it. Estimates are free.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most houses take one to two days. Bigger roofs, steep roofs and bad weather can add time.
Can you put new shingles over the old ones?
We do not recommend it. A layover hides rotted decking, adds weight, and some shingle warranties will not cover it. We tear off down to the wood.
Will you work with my insurance company?
We can meet your adjuster, document the damage with photos, and give you a written estimate. The claim itself is between you and your insurance company.
Can you do gutters without a new roof?
Yes. Gutters can be replaced on their own, and we can add guards to gutters that are still in good shape.
