Siding Installation and Repair in Bear, Delaware

New siding, trim and soffit for homes in Bear and across New Castle County. We fix what is behind the old siding before the new goes on.

New siding, done from the wall out

A lot of homes around Bear still have the siding they were built with. On houses from the 70s and 80s that often means painted wood panels or cedar that has been patched and painted more times than anyone can count. On newer houses it can mean thin builder grade vinyl that has faded, cracked or blown loose.

Siding is only as good as what is behind it. When the old siding comes off, we check the sheathing for rot, replace what is bad, and wrap the house before anything new goes on.

What we do

Vinyl siding

The most common choice here. No painting, lots of colors and profiles, and it handles our humidity well when it is hung with room to move in the heat.

Fiber cement siding

Heavier and tougher than vinyl, with a look closer to painted wood. A good fit when you want a sharper finish or need to match an older style.

Trim, soffit and fascia

We wrap window and door trim, fascia and rake boards in aluminum so you are done scraping and painting. Vented soffit lets the attic breathe.

Siding repair

Storm damage, a few cracked panels, a spot melted by the grill. If we can match it, we fix it. If we cannot, we tell you your options.

House wrap and flashing

Every full siding job gets new house wrap, and every window and door gets flashed. This is the part that keeps water out of your walls.

Shutters and accents

New shutters, gable vents and mounting blocks for lights and outlets so everything sits flat and sealed.

What our weather does to siding

Humid summers

North walls and shady sides stay damp. Wood siding grows mildew and starts to rot at the bottom edges and around windows.

Wind

Nor'easters and summer storms catch loose vinyl and peel it off, usually starting at a corner or along the top row.

Freeze and thaw

Water behind old siding or in cracked caulk freezes and pushes things apart. By spring you have gaps, paint bubbles and soft spots.

Signs your siding is done

If you are seeing any of these, it is worth having us take a look. The estimate is free.

  • Soft or rotted boards near the ground
  • Paint that will not stay on
  • Cracked, warped or loose vinyl
  • Mildew that keeps coming back
  • Gaps around windows and doors
  • Rotted or peeling trim
  • Faded vinyl that no longer matches
  • Rising drafts on windy days

How a siding job goes

  1. Estimate and colors

We measure the house, talk through styles and colors, and give you a written price.

  2. Tear off

The old siding comes off one wall at a time so the house is never left open to the weather.

  3. Repair and wrap

We fix any rotted sheathing, then wrap the walls and flash the windows and doors.

  4. Siding and trim

Siding, corners, soffit and trim go on, with mounting blocks for lights and outlets.

  5. Clean up

We pick up every day, haul everything away at the end, and walk the house with you.

Vinyl or fiber cement

Vinyl costs less, never needs paint, and works on most houses. Fiber cement costs more and will need paint down the road, but it is tougher and looks more like wood. We will show you both and price both if you want to compare.

Most of our vinyl siding jobs use Alside. We will bring samples so you can see the colors on your own house, in your own light.

We stand behind it

We stand behind our work. If something we installed is not right, call us and we will come back and make it right.

Siding questions

Should I pick vinyl or fiber cement?

Vinyl costs less and never needs paint. Fiber cement costs more and needs paint every so often, but it is tougher and looks more like wood. Most homes around here get vinyl.

Can you replace siding on just one side of the house?

Sometimes. The hard part is matching color on older siding that has faded. We will be straight with you about how close a match we can get.

How long does new siding take?

Most homes take a few days to a week, depending on the size of the house, how much trim there is, and how much repair we find under the old siding.

Do you go over the old siding or take it off?

We take it off. That is the only way to see and fix what is behind it.

Will my HOA need to approve it?

Many neighborhoods require approval for color changes. We can give you samples and product sheets to send in.
