Exterior Services in Bear, Delaware

Roofing, siding, decks and windows are most of what we do. We also build sheds, put up fences, pour concrete, and fix storm damage.

New dark shingle roof and dark gray siding on a two story home in the woods

Roofing and Gutters

Roof replacement, repairs, gutters and gutter guards.

A roof around here takes weather from every direction. Summer storms push rain sideways. Nor'easters pull at shingle edges for hours. Winter nights freeze whatever water got in, and the next sunny day thaws it out again.

Two story home with new dark gray vinyl siding and light trim

Siding

Vinyl and fiber cement siding, trim, soffit and fascia.

A lot of homes around Bear still have the siding they were built with. On houses from the 70s and 80s that often means painted wood panels or cedar that has been patched and painted more times than anyone can count. On newer houses it can mean thin builder grade vinyl that has faded, cracked or blown loose.

New wood deck with white vinyl railings on the back of a ranch home

Decks

New decks, rebuilds, railings and stairs.

A deck sits outside in the wettest, hottest and coldest weather we get. Humid summers keep the wood damp, winter freezes it, and the afternoon sun cooks the boards. A deck built with cheap fasteners, no flashing or shallow footings starts to move within a few years.

New navy front door and window with grilles set in beige siding

Windows and Doors

Replacement windows, entry doors and patio doors.

A lot of homes around here still have original aluminum windows, early vinyl windows with fogged glass, or doors that let daylight in around the edges. You feel it as a draft in January and a hot room in July.

Custom shed with new white vinyl siding and shingle roof going on

Sheds

Built on site to your size, with siding and shingles that match your house.

Kit sheds work for a while. Then the floor gets soft, the doors sag, and the roof starts to leak. We frame sheds on site with real lumber, sheathe and wrap them like a house, and finish them with siding and shingles.

New wood privacy fence with dog ear pickets along a side yard

Fences

Wood, vinyl and aluminum. We call 811 before we dig and set posts in concrete.

A fence leans for one of two reasons. The posts were not set deep enough, or water and frost worked on them until they moved. We dig to the right depth, set posts in concrete, and crown the concrete so water runs off instead of sitting against the post.

Resurfaced concrete retaining wall along a front walk

Concrete

Patios, walkways, steps, shed pads and retaining wall resurfacing.

Concrete fails here for the same reasons every time. The base was not compacted, there was no room for drainage, or water got into the surface and froze. A few winters later you have cracks, heaved slabs and flaking.

Roof and siding on a home under tall trees

Storm Damage Repair

Wind and fallen limb damage to roofs, siding and gutters.

Nor'easters, summer thunderstorms and the leftovers of tropical storms all come through here. Most storm damage we see is shingles blown off, siding pulled loose, gutters bent by limbs, and leaks that show up a day or two later.
